The Sarin Music Centre was founded and opened on 30 April 1998 under the direction of Yadollah Ghanbari.

Alongside its teaching work, which follows sound academic and practical standards, the Sarin Music Centre has also worked to make proper, well-grounded music — and musical culture generally — better understood.

The purpose of forming the Iranian music teaching group was to acquaint students with this land’s musical heritage; and beyond that, our thinking has been that in this centre, as well as preserving and spreading Iranian music as the unconscious distillation of Iranian rhythm, we should so far as we can bring alive in our students the belief that a window onto today’s life can be opened from any point in this golden palace, and that the scope for innovation and invention within Iranian music, and its capacity to accept them, is very wide indeed.

Equally, we believe that what exists in the world of culture and music should be approached properly and with rigour.

The purpose of forming the classical music teaching group can be summed up in a few sentences. On the teaching side: acquainting students with ensemble playing, rhythm, and the literature of classical music; developing a good sonority; and in short taking part in a collective effort and experiencing the healthy culture of group music-making, the want of which we feel keenly. On the social side, by holding concerts in aid of genuinely charitable organisations, we aim to bring our students into contact with philanthropy, public spirit and community life — in other words, a careful and well-ordered collective cultural activity.
